Maori MPs want proper pronunciation of names
The Maori Party's MPs have had enough of having their names mispronounced.
The party has asked all MPs to make a better effort of saying their names correctly.
Waiariki MP Te Ururoa Flavell says all MPs need to demonstrate maturity by pronouncing correctly one of the two official languages of New Zealand. He says he and his colleagues are continually offended by the mispronunciation and do not want to keep delaying proceedings in Parliament by raising the issue.
The Maori Party's three other MPs are Hone Harawira, Tariana Turia and Pita Sharples.
